Yesterday was my lucky day. The mail man came by at work as well as at home – bringing all kinds of treats!

First up, I had ordered some stuff from jcaroline creative a while ago, and I’m telling you, if you love ribbon that is the place to go! I was just stopping by for a few pieces of ribbon, and I ended up going a little bit crazy. Check this out – and this is just a small selection of my order:

Sorry guys – I know this could be an expensive acquaintance…  ;) Note, that if you’re from Denmark, you could have a little trouble checking out – I did, as the shop system didn’t accept my Danish credit card. Don’t give up, they were so helpful and it ended up working out just fine.

So guys, do you remember a while back when I entered my light summer tunic to Rae’s Spring Top Week? And it went and won? Well, Rae just sent me a package full of gorgeous stuff that had arrived when I came home yesterday afternoon! A few peeks:

And there was a beautiful handmade belt and a sweet card as well! And she mailed me the pattern for her wonderful Toddler Backpack which will be perfect for either one of the girls, when I get around to making it. This has to be my favourite, though – the Lickety Split Bag!

The Lickety Split Bag

I’m going to agree with her – it’s a perfect bag for nearly anything! It’ll find great use here – for outings, trips to the beach, visiting friends, etc. And she even included the pattern, so I’m definitely going to give it a go!

Thank you so much, Rae – I love it all! Next time you do something like the Spring Top Week – i’m in! :)

Finally finished the summer top. You know, I mentioned I was making something else for me, and this is it.

Summer top with leaf appliqué - mosaic

It didn’t come about easily, and I’m still not quite sure what to think about it. If you’re not interested in the proces, just skip the next part or I’ll be boring you to pieces…

I love the lavender stripes from Kaffe Fassett (found the fabric at 50% off recently at Fabric.com – they’re having sales all the time at the moment!). And actually the linen, the ribbon, the buttons – everything is very much my choice. I started out thinking I wanted it to be simple – just the lavender stripes and the linen and nothing else. But when the top was almost done, it just didn’t look right – nothing brought the two fabrics together, and really it just looked odd. Chopped in halves, sort of.

Anyway, I put it on a hanger on my closet, and circled around it for a few days – finally I went through my ribbons to see if anything would help combine the fabrics. This ribbon from Danish Aspegren helped, but I still wasn’t quite happy. I thought about hemming the bottom with a lavender bias tape, but I was afraid it wouldn’t bring it together but rather just frame the obvious – that there wasn’t a link between the top and the bottom. So I decided I needed to use the lavender fabric on the lower part of the top as well – somehow. Which is how I came up with the appliqué. I browsed for leaves and trees on the internet, and found this one below that I liked. Yesterday, I traced it and put it on there. Helped more I think, but I’m still not sure exactly what to think – perhaps because it didn’t turn out the way I imagined it.

Summer top with leaf appliqué - detail

Because it is made with a woven, and you have to be able to get into it, the top is a bit wide, but not as wide as I think it looks in the picture – I’ll try to get a modeled pic soon. It has darts on the back, which I actually sewed together on the wrong (=the right) side of the fabric at first, meaning the seam allowances were on the outside, LOL! Wasn’t the easiest thing I ever had to fix. The pattern is from the Danish craft magazine Ingelise once more – same issue as the tunic, Summer 2008.

I like it – but I’m curious to learn what you think! Also – which top should I use for my entry in The Spring Top Week – this one or the summer tunic?

Finally, I’d just like to mention that Ronja’s tree is now blossoming. Small, pink, perky, lovely flowers – I love it when her tree is in bloom.

Winter aconites

Yesterday, I had been at the doctors because of a sore throat – again – and Frida was with me. When we came home, I just lifted her out of the car seat, and instead of walking to the front door, she set off at a high pace (for her anyway) towards the garden. So we took a little walk in the garden, and look what we found.

Crocus

Ooohhhh – spring is coming – can you feel it?

I also want to share some finds with you. Now Ulla’s blog is always great for ribbon and trim inspiration, and she guided me to these amazing ribbons from Aspegren Denmark.

Ribbon from Aspegren

I have been using a lot of ribbon for all the bibs I have been making lately, and I just love these! As are the ones below from Farbenmix – I couldn’t help myself. Found here and are not all that easy to find, so I’ll leave it up to you to do the googling. Gorgeous right?

Look what I found!

I found this blooming shrub when we were walking in the park Saturday, and actually I just saved the picture for this occasion, because I thought it would fit the purpose wonderfully!

So I wrote all the names down on little pieces of paper, and had my stay-at-home God of Fortune (if you need that elaborated a little bit – go here) draw the winners:

Winner of the Flower-Bib:       ♥ Julie ♥

Winner of the Elephant-Bib:     ♥ Ria ♥

You two can start looking for an email from me - congrats to both of you! :)

To the rest of you: I’m sorry I didn’t make more bibs to put out here, but Frida needs quite a few! Honestly, I wish I could ship one off to every one of you! I really appreciate you playing along, though, and I hope you will stop by in the future!

I made a little something for you…

Bibs for Valentines

I’m giving these away, so I really hope you like them – and then I just hope you have a little one that needs one of them. The bibs have cotton on the front, and rubber coated terry cloth on the back side – with the terry cloth facing outwards.

All you have to do to get one of these is leave me a comment. Please let me know if you have a preference – I think the flower bib is pretty girly (don’t believe anyone would argue with that), while the elephant bib is good for boys as well as girls – depending on what you like. Well – see for yourself!

Elephant bib for Valentines

You can enter until Monday the 16th at 9:00 p.m. GMT+1, and there will be two winners – one for each bib.

And finally – please spread the word! Isn’t sharing what Valentine’s is all about?  :)

This week I have been lucky enough to feel the generosity of my friends from the internet several times. Or maybe I should rephrase, because I feel that with every single comment I receive here on my blog. Getting to know all of you guys, following your lives from afar, and exchanging wishes, is a wonderful bonus to blogging that I was never even aware of, when I first started blogging. What I mean to say is, this week, the postman brought me something twice to remind me of the warmth that reigns this amazing forum!

Cord from a friend

First up was Amy - I have been reading her blog since I first started sewing a year ago, and I love it. She makes wonderful tutorials, and has a very personal blog, that I just really enjoy reading. So check out this beautiful cord she sent me as a New Years treat! Well, thank you, Amy – I love it, and (I hope) you will witness it being put to good use! :)

You should meet our postman, actually – he has long hair that flutters in the wind, he rides a motorcycle (alright, so it’s a moped, but it definitely looks like a motorcycle to me…), and most importantly, he must be the happiest guy around – he always has a cheerful remark ready, and you’re sure to have a smile on your face, when he scoots along – on to the next house.

Laurie who won a pattern in my second Onion pattern give-away sent me a package that he dropped by today. It included a bag of all kinds of wonderful labels, tags, ribbon, buttons, etc.

Tags and ribbons

Ronja and I went through it all together, and there were so many beautiful things that I will most certainly find use for.

 Tea

Along with this came an exclusive box of tea bags from the brand “two leaves and a bud”, along with a wish that I enjoy it when I take a rest. Well, Laurie – that’s what I did today, and it’s just delicious, with a very full tea-flavour! Nothing like the ones you usually get at the supermarket. And thank you so much for it all!

Thank you!
