Feel Good Pants

This last couple of evenings, I have been making a pair of pants for me – the second evening accompanied by my mother who has been visiting for three days – it’s a good thing to have a creative companion.

At first I wanted to make a pair of pants from Onion pattern 4004, but it was sold out at my sewing shop, so I decided to go with 4019 instead – and I’m so happy I did! These are my feel good pants.

(Stofgiganten.dk sell the pattern, and they have international shipping.)

I found both fabrics at the Danish fabric store Stof & Stil.

Loose Pants - turned

I made a size 40 based on the measurement chart in the pattern, and I pretty much followed instructions, except for a few details.

The pattern calls for a regular zipper, but I decided that an invisible zipper would be better. The zipper is placed in the back of the pants, so I think it would be too dominant otherwise – it proved to be a good decision in my opinion – best result I’ve had with an invisible zipper.

Loose Pants - zipper

I made model A from the pattern, but instead of the hem from the pattern, I made a casing for an elastic at the bottom of the legs, since that was the style I was going for.

Loose Pants - casing with elastic

The ties are really a bit long, and the instructions say that you should adjust the length to fit you, but while I was making them, I wasn’t sure how I would want to tie them (knot or bow), so I kept the length from the pattern. Next time I would probably shorten them quite a bit.

Loose Pants - tie

I really like this pattern, and I would recommend it to anyone. The pants fit so nicely, not too loose or too tight, and the length is perfect. I’m just really happy with the result – I’m definitely going to be wearing these a lot.

These are really pretty. They look very easy to wear. But it’s your flat brown belly that I’m most jealous of!

    Flotte bukser i skøn stofkombination.
    Tak for kigget!

Smukke bukser. Dejlig stof kombination.

Katie – thank you so much!

    Curry – thanks, I will! 😉

Punikum – thanks, these were not hard at all, so don’t worry! 🙂

    Trudy – thank you, girl!

    Linda – thanks! 🙂

Rikke – LOL! 😉

Millie – that’s really sweet of you – thank you! *blush* 😉

Frau Putz – tak skal du have! 🙂

Mette – tak skal du have!

Feel good… indeed.

  8. Jennifer Amenta says:

These look incredibly comfy… love your fabric choices and the zipper turned out really well.

  9. Katja says:

Hi! I found your blog via Dana’s (MADE) blogroll and I’m mightily impressed by what you make! The pants are very lovely and the combination of fabrics you chose is awsome. I added your blog to my feed reader and look forward to your next projects. Very inspiring!
    Greetings from Germany,

I’m completely overwhelmed by the response on these pants, but that said, I totally love them after wearing them for several days.

Anne Dorte – Tak – du hugger bare! 🙂

Sarah – they are totally comfortable, but they can be stylish too with a white blouse or shirt, so it’s a All In One-solution. 😉 Thanks!

Hanne – Tak!

Elizabeth – thank you so much! 🙂

    Jennifer Amenta – thanks a bunch! 🙂

    Its_Lily – thank you!

Amy – LOL – these pants seem to do good for my silhouette… Thank you, girl!

    Joy – thank you! 🙂

Katja – How wonderful – thank you so much! I don’t have many German readers – I’m happy to bid you welcome here! 😉

I am in love with these pants! I made the pattern from the Onion pattern you were looking for, but I love the 4019 pattern. I might have to make a trip to the fabric store to pick up this pattern. 🙂 They look great on you!

  15. Stephanie says:

I love these! But I looked and the patter is in a language i can’t read 🙁 I love it though. Do you have it in english? If so do you know where I can get it? Thanks so much!
    Stephanie

  16. Astrid says:

Mandy – sorry, at the speed I sew, the price would have to be astronomic… 🙂

Jerribell – try googling Onion sewing patterns – that should get you to some of the shops that sell the pattern.

Linda – thanks, you are sweet! 😉

Stephanie – the language is Danish, and the patterns come from Denmark. 🙂 Your best shot at getting the pattern is probably buying it somewhere online in Danish, and getting the English instructions at http://www.shoponion.com. Unfortunately, I believe the pattern is going to be discontinued, but I’m sure Maria at ShopOnion.com will help you if she can.

  17. Astrid says:

    Hi Astrid
I can only echo the sentiments of all those that went before me…the pants are awesome. My sister-in-law and I liked them so much, we tried to get the pattern from the company. They informed us that it has been discontinued 🙁
I like this pattern because unlike many pants patterns of this kind, it has a flat waist rather than a gathered elastic waist…much nicer for the figure!!! If anyone has any suggestions on where to get the pattern, please let me know.

I so love those pants. They look so comfortable. I found you through pinterest and was excited to see you are from Denmark. I will be visiting your country in a few weeks and I am so excited.

  20. Page says:

Those are really nice and I badly need to make some. Have you tried the new pattern yet? I really wish I had seen this when the pattern was still available. You did a lovely job and I totally agree with you on the wide waistband and the invisible zipper. I found the invisible ones easier to put it in (:

  21. Kris says:

Love these pants. I attempted the pattern without instructions as I don’t read Danish. What length seam allowance do you use? I’m used to a generous 3/4″ American. I usually wear a size 2 American and made the size 36, following the measurement suggestions. They’re adorable but way too small. I will be giving them to my youngest niece as they don’t fit!

    • Astrid says:

Thank you! In the bottom of my post you can see a link to a shop that actually sells the patterns with English instructions. I use a 1 cm seam allowance, which is app. 0.4 inch, but remember in Danish patterns the seam allowance is not included in the pattern, so when you cut your fabric, you need to add the seam allowance that you like to use. The 36 should fit you, if you wear an American size 2, so I’m guessing you didn’t know about adding the seam allowance? Hope this helped! 😉

  22. Damien says:

Hi there. I’m in England and in an area where there are little sewing shops (not that there are many left anywhere sadly). I’m off to a shop to pick up some patterns soon, rather than ordering this precise pattern do you think that it looks like Burda B7230? Or even B6966? Both with a little tweaking of course, I think these would look wicked on my better half! Loving your fabric choices by the way! Thanks for sharing

      • Karlylang says:

LOVE the pants! I’m so inspired by them. I’m Canadian so I can’t get my hands on the onion pattern but I’m going to try the burda one! 🙂

    Bonsoir,
