I love that post title – Red riding hood romper! Try saying it again, really tasting the r’s – rrrred rrriding hood rrromper… OK – I’ll move on! 
For those of you who haven’t heard, my computer crashed some days ago. And I mean crashed – Mads tried several approaches with a boot CD over a couple of days, and luckily last night after numerous attempts, he got it to breathe again. He made my day! So if I have neglected you or your blog, that’s why!
Some of you will be aware, that I also suffered a total melt-down, sewingwise. On Friday morning I had a bit of perfect sewing time – Frida was asleep in the pram, Mads and Ronja were out, I had a pile of delicious new fabric that had just arrived in the mail, and I did NOT know what to make. I decided to turn to the always helpful Ottobre English Sewing Group and go with the advice of the majority. So I made another romper from the same Ottobre pattern, since Frida is wearing the last one a lot.
It was late Friday evening before I got it done – after my melt-down Frida was awake, and my perfect sewing moment had passed, so I had to wait until the evening. As always, sewing when I’m too tired means redoing a thing or two, but I won’t bore you with the details…
Like I mentioned last time, I wanted to make some modifications to the front pocket, so I did. This pocket is bigger, and I like the overall proportions much better this time – and then I added the tag as a funny detail. I didn’t make an appliqué, because I think the wonderful Kokka-fabric delivers as much action as this romper can hold. I love the fabric – it’s a lovely linen-cotton blend – perfect for baby garments. The fabric for the lining is dots by Moda – which were also used for the Tie-back tunic, that I made for Ronja (description of the making of that one is found here).
For my next sewing project, I hope the inspiration will come easier – however, I do like this romper a lot!
Today has been kind of a slow and calm day. Mads left early for a meeting in Jutland, and he dropped off Ronja at kindergarten on the way, so I didn’t need to think about that. I was really supposed to host the meeting in my mothers group today, but with Frida still snotty, and me having a sore throat, I didn’t want to risk passing it on to all the babies. So the mothers group for today was moved to Rikke from the group, who lives just around the corner.
While Frida was taking her first nap, I made myself a cup of coffee, and started looking at patterns to possibly make something for Ronja. The morning passed while I traced the pattern, cut the fabric and sat at the sewing machine. What you see above, is the pencil I use for tracing patterns – it just has to be a good karma pencil, don’t you think? Picking it up puts you in a creative and quite cheery mood. It’s actually Ronja’s, but she doesn’t mind my using it – much… Frida got up at one point, and in between her eating and playing on the floor, she was a great help! And for those of you who spotted it already, the fabric is Sandi Henderson once again – coincidence really, she just makes a lot of beautiful fabrics. I’ll let you know what I have made tomorrow.
Mads got home in the afternoon, and we walked to the kindergarten to pick up Ronja. The weather has been nice and warm, and Frida was sitting in the pram, squinting in the sunlight, and clearly enjoying the walk. Mads had taken Ronja’s bike to the kindergarten when he dropped her off this morning – we sometimes do that because she loves to bike home. It doesn’t happen that often, that we both go there to pick up Ronja, but when it does, she just lights up when she spots us, and it’s a joy to see! So we walked back again, and spent a little time in the garden, where the bees were busy going from flower to flower, and I snapped a few photos.
The weekend gave us fantastic warm weather in a way you don’t usually see it in the middle of May. But yesterday, it was rather chilly again, Frida decided to take a few naps, and I finally got around to do some sewing.
I made the “China grass” dress from the latest issue of Ottobre for Ronja. I wanted it to be a bit more relaxed than the version in the magazine which is very dressy. I used plain linen combined with Amy Butler’s “Lotus Wall Flower” in the apricot colour. The dress came together nicely and the only thing that did give me some trouble was the zipper. This is the first time I apply a zipper, and it’s a hidden one. I found it a bit hard to align it, but after undoing the stiches and trying again it ended up looking just fine.
I’m quite happy with the dress – if there’s something to notice about this pattern, it would be the fact that the bodice is rather wide and I should probably have gone down a size in the bodice for Ronja, even though she is usually a size 104. I’ll post a modeled picture when I get around to it – then you can see for yourself. 
Ronja did a drawing this weekend portraying our family. I love the fact that the sun wouldn’t fit on the drawing, so it had to go on the back – what an observation! The weather has been so amazing that we have been barbecueing each evening this weekend, and the garden has been the extension to the house that we love during summer.
