This last couple of evenings, I have been making a pair of pants for me – the second evening accompanied by my mother who has been visiting for three days – it’s a good thing to have a creative companion.

At first I wanted to make a pair of pants from Onion pattern 4004, but it was sold out at my sewing shop, so I decided to go with 4019 instead – and I’m so happy I did! I found both fabrics at the Danish fabric store Stof & Stil.

Loose Pants - turned

I made a size 40 based on the measurement chart in the pattern, and I pretty much followed instructions, except for a few details.

The pattern calls for a regular zipper, but I decided that an invisible zipper would be better. The zipper is placed in the back of the pants, so I think it would be too dominant otherwise – it proved to be a good decision in my opinion – best result I’ve had with an invisible zipper.

Loose Pants - zipper

I made model A from the pattern, but instead of the hem from the pattern, I made a casing for an elastic at the bottom of the legs, since that was the style I was going for.

Loose Pants - casing with elastic

The ties are really a bit long, and the instructions say that you should adjust the length to fit you, but while I was making them, I wasn’t sure how I would want to tie them (knot or bow), so I kept the length from the pattern. Next time I would probably shorten them quite a bit.

Loose Pants - tie

I really like this pattern, and I would recommend it to anyone. The pants fit so nicely, not too loose or too tight, and the length is perfect. I’m just really happy with the result – I’m definitely going to be wearing these a lot.

*** UPDATE 2012-10-11 ***

Chances are, if you came here from Pinterest, you are interested in the pattern for these pants. However, it has been discontinued, and I just wanted to let you know, that the Onion patterns 4004 and 4022 are rather similar in style. You can find them at Marias shop with English instructions included. Thanks for visiting!  :)

These are really pretty. They look very easy to wear. But it’s your flat brown belly that I’m most jealous of!

    Flotte bukser i skøn stofkombination.
    Tak for kigget!

Smukke bukser.

Katie – thank you so much!

    Curry – thanks, I will! ;)

Punikum – thanks, these were not hard at all, so don’t worry! :)

    Trudy – thank you, girl!

    Linda – thanks! :)

Rikke – LOL! ;)

Millie – that’s really sweet of you – thank you! *blush* ;)

Frau Putz – tak skal du have! :)

Mette – tak skal du have!

Feel good… indeed.

they look so comfortable – and cute! I might have to try and get that pattern myself. not that I have your stomach – wow!

I’m completely overwhelmed by the response on these pants, but that said, I totally love them after wearing them for several days.

Anne Dorte – Tak – du hugger bare! :)

Sarah – they are totally comfortable, but they can be stylish too with a white blouse or shirt, so it’s a All In One-solution. ;) Thanks!

Hanne – Tak!

Elizabeth – thank you so much! :)

    Jennifer Amenta – thanks a bunch! :)

    Its_Lily – thank you!

Amy – LOL – these pants seem to do good for my silhouette… Thank you, girl!

    Joy – thank you! :)

Katja – How wonderful – thank you so much! I don’t have many German readers – I’m happy to bid you welcome here! ;)

I love these! But I looked and the patter is in a language i can’t read :( I love it though. Do you have it in english? If so do you know where I can get it? Thanks so much!
    Stephanie

  37. Posted August 9, 2012 at 21:21 | Permalink

Mandy – sorry, at the speed I sew, the price would have to be astronomic… :)

Jerribell – try googling Onion sewing patterns – that should get you to some of the shops that sell the pattern.

Linda – thanks, you are sweet! ;)

Stephanie – the language is Danish, and the patterns come from Denmark. :) Your best shot at getting the pattern is probably buying it somewhere online in Danish, and getting the English instructions at http://www.shoponion.com. Unfortunately, I believe the pattern is going to be discontinued, but I’m sure Maria at ShopOnion.com will help you if she can.

Wow !!! I absolutely love these pants ! I want to learn Danish so I can sew myself the same ones ! The fabric you chose are just wonderful. Bravo !

    Hi Astrid
I can only echo the sentiments of all those that went before me…the pants are awesome. My sister-in-law and I liked them so much, we tried to get the pattern from the company. They informed us that it has been discontinued :-(
I like this pattern because unlike many pants patterns of this kind, it has a flat waist rather than a gathered elastic waist…much nicer for the figure!!! If anyone has any suggestions on where to get the pattern, please let me know.
